Overview

In Canvas, LTI settings can be established at the account level or the course level. If they are set at the account level, then any course in that account can use them. This is easier because then each course does not need detailed LTI (app) information, only the launch URL. The one limitation of this approach is that all the courses in the account have to be in the same program. If there are courses for more than one program in an account, then each program has to be configured separately (in order to specify the program in the custom parameters ). These instructions show configuring at the account level. Configuring at the course level is very similar.

Setting up the External Tool

Click the Settings link in the left sidebar of the course or account where you want to add the app.
Click the Apps tab
Click Add New App to manually configure.
Enter the name, consumer key, and shared secret for the app
1. The configuration type should be "manual entry".
2. The consumer key and shared secret should be the same as the key and secret you set up in Experiential Learning Cloud.
3. The launch URL will be your domain name with "/sso/lti" at the end. For example: https://stateu.Experiential Learning Cloud.app/sso/lti.
4. The domain should be just your domain. For example: stateu.Experiential Learning Cloud.app.
5. Privacy must be set to "Public".

After the app is saved you should see it appear as configured in the course or account content.

If you have multiple programs in Canvas using Experiential Learning Cloud, create an external app for each program with the custom field program=Program Name. Contact Experiential Learning Cloud for the program name(s) to ensure exact matches. If left blank, it defaults to the first program listed alphabetically.

Depending on the integration type, the app may appear in different locations, but most will show under "External Tools" when adding items to a module.

Adding the External Tool to a Course

Click on Courses on the left.
Click on the appropriate course
Click on assignments.
Click on the add assignments button.
Fill out the form as appropriate. If score tracking is enabled, the name of the assignment should match the name of the assignment in Experiential Learning Cloud and must be unique.

The launch URL must match the one used during app setup. Be sure to check “Load This Tool in A New Tab.”

For cross-listed courses, create content for each program.

Once this is all set up, we will ask you to add the link to a course in a program that follows the EXACT naming convention for courses in the program(s) using the integration. Confirm the naming conventions for the context_title and context_label, as well as any faculty roles in the LMS besides Instructor. When you click the link, an error will appear. You will send the error in the initial testing of the link and your LMS course naming conventions to Experiential Learning Cloud.

LTI Parameters

LTI Parameter	Contents
context_title	The Canvas "course name" field.
context_id	The unique identifier in Canvas. e.g. "147a35f1d23c48dea4d4524bcb6c0921". This is an internal system identifier in Canvas and probably doesn't have much meaning to the average user.
context_label	The Canvas "course code" field.
resource_link_title	The item "title" field in Canvas.
custom_canvas_assignment_title	The Canvas assignment "name" field in Canvas. This is a Canvas-only custom LTI parameter. It will contain the name of the assignment, vs the name of the course in context_title. If the course has more than one Experiential Learning Cloud assignment, use this field instead of the course name to identify the assignment name.
