Predecessor‑Successor Links Not Showing in Excel Gantt Chart

In @RISK’s Project view, tasks show their logical relationships (predecessors and successors), but Excel’s Gantt chart doesn’t automatically display these links.

The Gantt chart in Excel is just a visual representation of task start and finish dates—it doesn’t read or draw dependency lines unless you explicitly tell it to.

To make links appear in the Gantt chart:

1. Use the built-in Excel Gantt template with dependency lines

   • Some Excel Gantt templates allow you to draw arrows manually or via formulas to represent dependencies.

2. Export a full schedule with predecessors

   • In @RISK Project view, use File » Export » Task List with Predecessors (or copy/paste into Excel).

   • Use conditional formatting, shapes, or SmartArt arrows to visualize the links.

3. Use the @RISK Add‑in’s Gantt chart features

   • Certain @RISK Gantt charts allow you to turn on “Show Predecessor/Successor links” in the chart settings.

   • If your chart is static or built in plain Excel, this option won’t be available—you need the @RISK chart to render the links.

Important:

• A plain Excel Gantt chart is not dynamic; even if dates change, the arrows won’t update automatically.

• Only @RISK Project Gantt charts (or linked templates) will display arrows automatically.
