Applies to:

@Risk/DTS add-ins for Excel, releases 5.7.1 and 6.x/7.x

 

Error:

"Could not start the Microsoft Excel application"

 

Cause:

This error indicates @RISK (PrecisionTree, StatTools, ...) is unable to locate Excel. 

This can happen after you upgrade Excel or the software, depending on the exact sequence of events.

 

Solution:

1. Verify that the software is installed on the same computer or server as Excel.
2. Try double-clicking an .XLSX file to verify that Excel is properly set up to open them.
   1. If those checks succeed:
      1. Open Excel before @RISK (StatTools, PrecisionTree, ...).
      2. If you prefer to edit the Registry, you can add a key to tell the software where to find Excel.

         2. If the path is already set, please verify that it is set correctly.
3. You can also set Excel to open @RISK (PrecisionTree, StattTools, ...) automatically for you.
