How to Open DecisionTools Suite Software Automatically in Excel

 

Background:

DecisionTools Suite (DTS) software does not require manual addition to Excel.

You can launch tools like @RISK, StatTools, or Evolver via a desktop shortcut or the Start menu. 

• If Excel isn’t running, the software will launch it automatically.

Some users prefer opening Excel by double-clicking a workbook.

• In this case, DTS tools must be started separately unless configured to open automatically.

Cautions:

• Do not configure automatic startup if you plan to open multiple Excel instances

  • DTS cannot run in multiple Excel instances simultaneously. You may get errors like “Object initialized twice.”

• Multiple DTS releases can coexist on one computer, but only one version should run at a time.

  • If a version starts automatically, do not run a different version until you disable the automatic startup for the first.

Setting up the Automatic Loading

1. Launch the DTS tool you want to open automatically.

2. In Excel, go to File → Options → Add-Ins.

3. At the bottom, select Manage Excel Add-Ins and click Go.

4. You’ll see a list of DTS add-ins. Check the box for the add-in(s) you want to open automatically.

5. Do not click Browse; only listed add-ins can be selected.

6. To disable the option, return to the Add-Ins list and uncheck the add-ins.

   1. You can still launch them manually via shortcut or Start menu.
