Collaboration Cloud vs Collaboration Server

NVivo offers two ways for teams to collaborate on the same project: Collaboration Cloud and Collaboration Server. Both support real-time collaboration, but they differ in where the project is hosted and how team members connect to it.

Collaboration Cloud for NVivo 14 and up

Collaboration Cloud is a cloud-based product for NVivo 14 and up. It's set up in two steps:

1. Add team members to the Collaboration Cloud license in the MyNVivo portal.
2. Add them to the specific project using the "Manage Team" button inside NVivo.

Once added, each team member clones the project to their own device. That local copy stays linked to the master file on the server and syncs regularly, so everyone's changes stay up to date.

 Collaboration Server

Collaboration Server is a separate application installed on a server at your institution. Multiple users on the same network can open the project from their own local NVivo installation (Windows only) and work on it at the same time. Everyone sees other users' changes in real time.

Which One Should You Choose?

• Choose Collaboration Cloud if your team needs to work across both Windows and Mac, or from different locations.
• Choose Collaboration Server if your team works within one institution's network and only uses Windows.
