Sonia: User Roles and Their Definitions

Placement Officers

Placement Officers are set up as Administrative users in Sonia.  They will have access to the Sonia Desktop Client.

Students

Students are placed into Sonia to maximize their college experience, verify they have been given suitable placements, and securely manage their placement information.

Site Contacts 

• Site Contact - anyone employed by, or otherwise affiliated with, the site
  • Primary Contact - the point person at the site to...
    • ask for placement openings
    • review placement candidates
    • update site information
    • signs forms on behalf of the site
  • Student Contact - the STUDENT's primary point of contact at the site to... 

    • act as an intern coordinator for students applying to a site

    • answer questions during placement that they would not direct to their mentor (such as HR)

  • Mentors/Site Supervisors - A Site Contact BECOMES a mentor when they are assigned to a placement.  A mentor/site supervisor...
    • Oversees student’s on-site activities
    • Takes on supervisory responsibilities
      • Completes an evaluation/assessment of student
      • Approves time on placement
      • Provides mentorship in the profession

Supervisors - Supervisors are usually affiliated with the university and are directly connected to a student's placement. The duties of a supervisor include:

• Overseeing academic side of placements
• Assigning grades
• Site visits

Coordinators - Coordinator is a "sub-role" of the Supervisor module. While the Coordinator can see their students' placement information, they have a non-placement related role in Sonia

• Assigned to students based on a Subject on the student's profile
• They can see student info:
  • Current/past placements
  • Enrollment details
  • Checks
  • Forms (with permission)

Directors - Director is a "sub-role" of the Supervisor module. While the Director can see their students' placement information, they have a non-placement related role in Sonia

• Students are assigned to Directors based their Course/Program
• Directors can see student info:
  • Current/past placements
  • Enrollment details
  • Checks
  • Forms (with permission)
