Why is my license file or Activation ID only good for a year if I bought a permanent license?

Answer:

Your license is permanent, but the certificate or Activation ID is issued annually for administrative and recovery reasons. There is no cost to renew it.

Why does my license expire after a year?

The great majority of Palisade commercial network licenses are perpetual (not time-limited).
However:

• Concurrent Network licenses (license files)

• Enterprise Network licenses (Activation IDs)

are issued for a maximum of one year at a time.

This is done to allow for:

• Planned or unplanned server changes

• License server replacements or migrations

• Recovery of lost licenses (for Enterprise Networks) when workstations fail or are reimaged without deactivation

Annual renewal prevents permanent loss of licenses and keeps your network license healthy.

How can I tell when my current license will expire?

You can find the expiration date in any of these places:

• The email that included your certificate or Activation ID

• The lower pane of Server Manager

• The license file itself (plain text)

IMPORTANT: If you open the license file in a text editor, do not modify it. Changes will invalidate the checksum.

What do I have to do to renew it?

• About one week before expiration (earlier for Enterprise Networks), we contact the server administrator who received the last license

• We ask a few brief questions to generate the new license

• Once we have answers, we usually provide the renewed license within one business day (often within hours)

How long does installation take?

• Concurrent Network license: under 5 minutes

• Enterprise Network license: longer, since each end-user machine must be reactivated

We provide instructions to make this as smooth as possible.

What does it cost?

Nothing.
There is no charge for annual renewals of perpetual network licenses.
