FAQ: Why and How to Use a Certificate License for Standalone Software

Why Choose a Certificate License?

• Some customers cannot send XML files for manual activation due to security restrictions.

• Other software may be incompatible with the standard activatable license (“trusted storage” by FLEXnet).

• Certificate licenses provide an alternative in these cases.

• A 30-day certificate is issued on a new PC to confirm functionality before a production certificate is issued.

• Certificates are valid up to one year and can be renewed free of charge.

• Note: Functionality is identical to an activatable license; the difference is only in licensing method.

How to Obtain a Certificate License

1. Contact Technical Support by logging into the Lumivero Community Home Page and clicking on the Submit a Case button to fill out a form for assistance.

2. Include the following information in your request:

   • Serial Number: Found in your purchase confirmation email.

   • Host ID: Obtain it as follows:

     • Install the software (right-click installer → Run as Administrator).

     • Launch the software and open License Manager.

     • In version 8: Host ID is listed directly.

     • Older versions: Click the magnifying glass → Host ID → Notepad opens. Copy the twelve-digit number on the third line (“The FLEXnet host ID of this machine is…”).

   • If requesting certificates for multiple serial numbers, include one Host ID per serial number.

Tech Support will respond with the license certificate(s).

Installing the Certificate

1. Close all instances of Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project.

2. Save the file Palisade_Standalone.lic to the System folder under your Palisade installation:

   • Default paths:

     • C:\Program Files (x86)\Palisade\System

     • C:\Program Files\Palisade\System

   • Overwrite any existing file with the same name.

3. Launch the Palisade software:

   • If License Manager doesn’t open automatically:

     • Click the License Manager button (or Help → License Manager).

   • Verify the license shows as a certificate with the correct expiration date.

4. If License Manager still shows a trial:

   • Click Select License and choose the certificate.

   • The selection is remembered per user.

5. Confirm with Technical Support:

   • Reply to their email to verify the license works.

   • They will issue the production certificate for the PC.
