How do I stop @RISK from linking to a Microsoft Project (.MPP) file?

 

Answer:

If you’ve imported an .MPP file into @RISK and you no longer want to simulate the schedule (or keep Microsoft Project involved) you can remove the link without affecting your cost or other simulations.

Steps to unlink the MPP file:

1. Open Excel’s Name Manager:

   • Excel 2007 or later: Formulas » Name Manager

   • Excel 2003 or earlier: Insert » Name » Define

2. In the list of defined names, locate RiskMPPPath.

3. Delete RiskMPPPath.

4. Save your workbook.

After this:

• The link to the Microsoft Project file is removed.

• You can safely move, rename, or delete the original .MPP file.

• The Gantt chart and any schedule-related information in Excel will no longer update.

• Other @RISK simulations (costs, resources, or any Excel-based calculations) continue to function normally.

This method ensures that @RISK simulations remain active while freeing you from maintaining the original Project file.
