Setting VBA References for Palisade Software

You can use VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to automate Palisade software or access its object model without relying on worksheet functions.

To do this, you must set references in the Visual Basic editor so VBA knows where to find Palisade object definitions.

• This is required when your code directly accesses objects, properties, or methods in @RISK or other Palisade tools, such as running simulations, setting options, or fitting distributions.
• If your code only runs before or after simulations and does not access Palisade objects, references are not required.

To set references:

1. Open the Visual Basic editor and click Tools » References. 
2. Remove check marks from outdated libraries such as AtRisk, RiskXL, Risk, or Risk5.
3. Select the correct reference entries for your Palisade product and version, and click OK.
4. Save the workbook to store the references.
   1. When a workbook with references is opened, the referenced Palisade software will launch automatically if it is not already running.

For release 8.x, select the following:

• @RISK: RiskXLA and Palisade_RISK_XDK8

• Evolver: EvolverXLA and Palisade Evolver 8.x for Excel Developer Kit

• NeuralTools: NeuralTools

• PrecisionTree: PtreeXLA and Palisade PrecisionTree 8.x Object Library

• StatTools: Palisade StatTools 8.x Object Library

For release 7.x:

• @RISK: RiskXLA and Palisade @RISK 7.x for Excel Object Library

  • plus Palisade RISKOptimizer 7.x XDK if applicable

• Evolver: EvolverXLA and Palisade Evolver 7.x XDK

• NeuralTools: NeuralTools

• PrecisionTree: PtreeXLA and Palisade PrecisionTree 7.x Object Library

• StatTools: Palisade StatTools 7.x Object Library

For release 6.x:

• @RISK: RiskXLA and Palisade @RISK 6.x for Excel Object Library

  • plus RISKOptimizer 6.x XDK if needed

• Evolver: EvolverXLA and Palisade Evolver 6.x XDK

• NeuralTools: NeuralTools

• PrecisionTree: PtreeXLA and Palisade PrecisionTree 6.x Object Library

• StatTools: Palisade StatTools 6.x Object Library

Within the same major release (6.x, 7.x, or 8.x), references adjust automatically when workbooks are shared.

• Between major releases, references must be updated manually.
