Can clients reach the license server by FQDN or IP address?

Yes. Both FQDNs and IP addresses are supported by the licensing software.

• Do not put an FQDN on the SERVER line of the Server.lic file.
  • That line must always contain either the bare server name or the placeholder this_host.
• Instead, edit the Palisade_NetworkClient.ini file after you create it but before running the client installer.
• On the SERVERNAME lines, replace the host name with the desired FQDN or IP address, making sure to keep the @ sign.

You can maintain different Palisade_NetworkClient.ini files for different situations, such as one for LAN clients and another for clients that connect from outside the LAN.

If a client is usually on the LAN but occasionally off network, license borrowing may be a simpler solution.
