Borrowing a Concurrent Network License for Use off Network

FAQs:

What are the benefits of a network license?
A network license lets you transfer the license to your own server with one serial number and Activation ID. End-user computers get licenses from your server, simplifying activation and license administration. Internet access is not required. Network client installs can be scripted for easy deployment. Concurrent (floating) licenses allow installation on unlimited workstations, reimaging without deactivation, remote use, and borrowing for off-network work.

What are the customer's responsibilities with a network license?
Since the license resides on your server, managing it is your responsibility. Palisade cannot track usage. You must deactivate the network license before reimaging the server.

What is a Concurrent Network?
Concurrent Network licenses allow multiple installations but limit simultaneous users. Clients obtain licenses dynamically from your server. Borrowing off-network is optional. If all licenses are in use, additional users must wait until one becomes available.

What are the system requirements for the license server?
Any Windows machine (Windows 7 or later) is suitable. Dedicated hardware is not required. Virtual servers are supported. Servers can host licensing in terminal services, Citrix, or thin client setups.

What are the requirements for the corporate network?
Clients can reach the license server via host name, qualified name, or IP address. Conventional LANs are common but not required.

Is an Internet connection needed?
No ongoing Internet connection is required for clients or servers. Initial license transfer benefits from an Internet connection but it’s not mandatory.

Must end users be connected to our network?
Normally, yes. Licenses are obtained dynamically from the server. Off-network borrowing is possible if enabled, with a maximum borrowing period. Borrowed licenses automatically return to the server pool at expiration.

How do we change an end-user computer or upgrade Windows?
Concurrent Network has unlimited installs. Simply wipe or upgrade computers; return borrowed licenses before doing so.

What do we have to do when changing or reimaging our server?
Changing servers is straightforward. Configure workstations to point to the new server. Deactivate the network license before wiping the old server to avoid license loss.

How do we upgrade end-users to a new DTS software version?
With current maintenance, upgrades are allowed. Install the new version over the old, and download new licenses if needed. Check the online Guide for Administrators for details.
