When and How to Deactivate a License

Overview:
Deactivate a license when changing, reimaging, or upgrading your server, or when Technical Support requests it for upgrading network software.

Notes on Multiple Activations:
If an Activation ID appears multiple times (split activations), each line item—called a “fulfillment”—must be deactivated separately. You can later reactivate them together or split them differently.

How to Deactivate a License:

1. Select the license in Palisade Server Manager.

2. Click Deactivate.

   • If grayed out, the license is a certificate type and cannot be deactivated; contact Support via the Lumivero Community.

3. Choose Automatic or Manual deactivation.

Automatic Deactivation:

• Click Deactivate » Use Automatic Deactivation.

• Response should appear within 60 seconds.

• If unsuccessful, contact Support before decommissioning the server.

Manual Deactivation:

• Use if Automatic fails or server is offline.

• Click Deactivate » Use Manual Deactivation » Save Deactivation Request File.

• Submit the file to Support via Lumivero Community.

• Receive a response file and load it in Server Manager to complete deactivation.

Returning a License:

• After successful deactivation, contact Support with the serial number to obtain a license for a newer software version.

Common Reasons for Failure:

• Server cannot connect to Palisade servers.

• Network licenses can be deactivated only once every 90 days.

• Borrowed or client-assigned licenses may prevent deactivation of the corresponding fulfillment.

Tip: Always verify you’re loading the response file (ResponseDAct.xml), not the request file, during manual deactivation.
