Problem

You have successfully logged into Citavi Web in your browser. As soon as you click to open a project, a new tab with our shop page appears. In addition, the button to create a new project is missing.

Alternatively: you have a valid site license, but still cannot access Citavi Web. Selecting "New license" and your organization again does not change anything – the same window simply reopens each time.

Cause

There are two separate user interfaces for Citavi projects:

1. Citavi 6 Desktop and Citavi 7 Desktop (installed, only for Windows, for local projects and cloud projects)
2. Citavi Web (not installed, operating system agnostic, only for cloud projects)

You need a separate license if you want to use Citavi Web. A license for Citavi 6 or Citavi 7 is only valid for the desktop version. A "Citavi Web and Desktop Bundle" license, however, is valid for Citavi 6, Citavi 7 and Citavi Web.

Some site licenses only cover the desktop version. If that's the case, Citavi Web shows a shop page instead of a project, or instead of the button to create a new project – the license simply doesn't entitle you to use Citavi Web.

How to check which license you have: Log in to your Citavi Account (citavi.com/login) and click License in the left-hand menu. If only a Citavi 6/Citavi 7 (desktop) license is listed, and no Citavi Web or bundle license, this is the cause.

Solution

Before you purchase a license on the Lumivero Shop Page, you can activate a thirty-day trial for Citavi Web.

Citavi Web is most useful when you don't have a Windows PC available.

Please note: A Citavi Web license is not the same as a Citavi Space license. The Citavi Web license allows you to use Citavi in your browser regardless of your operating system. A Citavi Space license is needed for additional cloud space. This license might be needed when you receive a message that your cloud space limit is exceeded.

The Citavi Cloud, in turn, is the storage location itself: the server where cloud projects, including attachments (e.g., PDFs), are stored. Cloud projects can be opened with both Citavi for Windows (if Space is in your account) and Citavi Web – the cloud is the data storage, Web and Desktop are the two interfaces used to access it, and Space describes how much of that storage is used or still available.
