Using the SubjectData Property

Step 1: Assign a Value to the SubjectData Property

The SubjectData property behaves like a global variable and can be assigned or updated from anywhere in your survey script, including Start Scripts, End Scripts, Expression Questions, and the Advanced Scripts.

For example, suppose your survey generates a unique interview number and stores it as the answer to Question 2 (Q2). You can use that value as the interview identifier displayed in the list of saved interviews on the device.

Once the interview number has been generated and stored in Q2, assign it to the SubjectData property. A common place to do this is in the End Script of Q2:

SubjectData = Answer(2).ToString();

From that point onward, the value stored in SubjectData will be displayed as the interview identifier in the data collection app, making it much easier to distinguish between saved interviews. It will also be available in the Progress Report and can be included in exported interview data if required.

The last value that was assigned to the Subject Data will be the actual value that is shown on the device.

 

Step 2: View the SubjectData Value on the Device

After assigning a value to the SubjectData property, you can view it on the device in the Conducted tab of the survey's main screen.

The value is displayed in the Additional Info column.

If no value has been assigned to SubjectData, the Additional Info column will be blank for that interview.

Once a value has been assigned, it will appear in the Additional Info column. For example, if your survey generates a unique interview number and assigns it to SubjectData, that number will be displayed, making it easy to identify the interview in the list of saved interviews.

Note: The Additional Info field has a maximum display length of 64 characters. Any text beyond this limit will not be displayed.

 

 

Step 3: View the SubjectData of Uploaded Interviews

After interviews are uploaded to the server, the SubjectData value is available throughout SurveyToGo for monitoring, filtering, and exporting interview data.

View SubjectData in the Operation Console

You can add the SubjectData column to the Operation Console to display the value assigned to each interview.

This makes it easy to identify interviews using the custom information stored in SubjectData.

View SubjectData in Exported Data

SubjectData is one of the standard SurveyToGo system fields and is included in exported data by default (unless excluded during export).

To include or verify this field during export, open the Export Wizard and review the Extra STG Columns tab.

View SubjectData in the Progress Report

The Progress Report also includes the SubjectData column, allowing you to monitor interview progress using the custom values stored for each interview.

Filter Exports Using SubjectData

When exporting interview data, you can also use SubjectData as a filter.

In the Export Wizard, open the Options tab and specify the SubjectData values you want to include in the export.

This allows you to export only the interviews that match specific identifiers or statuses stored in the SubjectData field.

 

Step 4: Filter the Fieldwork Analysis by the predefined SubjectID data attributes 

1. Start typing the attribute name to filter the Fieldwork Analyzer page 

2. View results.
