Inheriting Form Structures across an Enterprise

Overview

In SharpCloud Enterprise, form structures can be inherited across a solution, allowing you to create a form once in a template and reuse it across multiple stories. This ensures consistency and reduces duplication.

Note: This feature is available in SharpCloud v9.0.1218 and later.

How Form Inheritance Works

• Forms created in a View Template or Metadata Template are inherited by child stories

• Only the form structure is inherited, not the data

• When used, the form creates or edits items in the story where it is accessed, not the template

If a form is created in a Metadata Template, it becomes available across all stories in the solution.

Requirements

• The target story must contain at least one category (inherited or local)

  •

• Without a category, items cannot be created using the form

Using Inherited Forms

When working with inherited forms:

• The Manage Forms dialog displays both local and inherited forms

  •

• Inherited forms are read-only

• A padlock icon indicates the form originates from a template

• Clicking the padlock opens the source story where the form is maintained

Editing and Duplicating Forms

• Inherited forms cannot be edited directly in the child story

• Users with Create/Owner permissions can duplicate a form using Save as new

• The duplicated version becomes editable within the current story

Key Behaviour

• Forms always act in the context of the story they are opened in

• Pop-out forms indicate which story will be updated

• Changes to inherited forms must be made in the source (template) story
