Error:

"Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object"

Solutions:

1. Follow the steps below to Enable Plain Text:
   1. Launch NVivo
   2. Go to the File menu -> Options
   3. Tick the option ‘Display plain text for nodes with'
   4. Click Apply and then OK
   5. Close and re-launch NVivo

If the problem persists, the NVivo customization folder has likely become corrupt and needs to be deleted. 

NVivo will re-create it when the software is re-launched.

Note:  Taking this action will reset customizations you have set up and your 'My Recent Projects' list on the Welcome screen will be refreshed for all versions of NVivo on the device.
The next time you open NVivo, you will need to navigate to where your project is located and double-click on the project icon to open it. This action will place the project name back in the 'My Recent Projects' list.

2. Delete the Customization Folder Following the Steps Below:

• • With NVivo closed, make sure you are displaying hidden files and folder in Windows Explorer:
  • Navigate to the following folders:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\QSR_International
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\QSR_International  (If it exists)
    • Note: QSR_International in the path is Lumivero,_LLC as of NVivo 14.23.3
  • Within these folders, delete all folders where the name starts with "NVivo.exe_Url"
  • Run NVivo again.

If this also fails, this indicates an issue with the Windows 10 Management Instrumentation software (WMI).  NVivo relies on it to work properly.

3. Follow the steps below to repair the WMI on your computer.

NOTE:
These steps may or may not repair the WMI. To make the changes, you will need administrative rights on your PC.
If you are prompted with a "permission to continue" message while installing the file, please click Continue.

Steps to download the fix batch file:

1. 1. 1. Create a C:\temp directory via Windows Explorer if the folder doesn't already exist.
      2. Download the script from the link below
         https://download.qsrinternational.com/Support/wmifix.zip
      3. Save the zipped file to your C:\temp directory.
      4. Extract the zipped file to C:\temp. You should now have a file in your C:\temp directory : 'wmifix.bat'.

Steps to Run the bat file:

1. 1. 1. Click on the Windows Start button and type in cmd.exe in the Start Search area on the bottom left of your computer.
      2. Right click on cmd.exe in the Programs list and choose “Run as Administrator”.
      3. In the command window, type:
         1. "cd C:\temp" and press enter
         2. type "wmifix" and press enter.
            1. it may take up to 15 minutes for command to execute and finish
         3. Run NVivo again.
