NVivo AI Cloud: Concepts

As you develop your analysis, you will be able to add concepts to the model and link them to the relevant codes that support them.

You can also group codes into higher-order concepts. In the left-hand navigation view, there is an area where you can create concepts. You can select codes that support that concept, and the concept linked to those selected codes will appear in the graph.

Create a concept

Create a concept to gather related codes under a single named theme, giving your project a thematic vocabulary above individual codes. A concept needs a name, and you can optionally attach a starting set of codes when you create it.

Concept names must be unique within a project, compared case-insensitively. If you try to create a concept whose name already exists, NVivo AI Cloud refuses it and tells you a concept with that name already exists in the project. 

Rename a concept

Rename a concept when its theme is better described by a different label. A new name must be non-empty, and the same case-insensitive uniqueness rule applies: renaming a concept onto a name another concept already holds is not allowed. Renaming does not change which codes belong to the concept.

Add or remove codes from a concept

Adjust a concept's membership as your analysis develops. Adding and removing codes is a single operation: give the codes to add and the codes to remove together, up to a batch limit, and NVivo AI Cloud applies both.

Only codes that belong to the current project and still exist are applied. A concept whose member codes have all been deleted still exists as a valid, researcher-authored theme; it simply shows no member codes.

Delete a concept

Delete a concept when its theme is no longer part of your analysis. Deletion is a soft delete of the concept only: the codes that belonged to it are not deleted; they simply stop being grouped under that concept.
