Overview

Rubrics in Experiential Learning Cloud (ELC) are built separately from Forms. Once created, rubrics can be added to a form and used across multiple assignments to optimize the assessment of student performance.

Prior to building rubrics, program standards must be set up in your database; otherwise, you will not be able to associate them with your rubric criteria.  Program Administrators will also need the Program Setup role to create and edit Rubrics.

Steps to Create a Rubric

1. Go to Program Setup | Customization.

2. Next, click on the Forms tab to the left of the screen. Then, click the Rubrics tab at the top of the screen.

   1. Program Administrators will need to have the Program Setup role to create Rubrics.
3. Once inside Rubrics, click on the Add button to the right of the screen.

4. Start building your Rubric by assigning a unique number and name to it. Be as specific as possible so it is easy to identify and locate when adding it to a form and generating rubric outcomes reports.

   1. Number: The rubric number typically matches the number of the form to which it will be connected.
   2. Name: Typically, the rubric name coincides with the name of the form to which it is associated.
   3. Rubric builder notes: You can add information to let other Admin users know the origin and nature of this rubric. This field is optional.
   4. Active: The default setting for a new rubric is Active. Toggle to Deactivate as needed. NOTE: Deactivated rubrics will not be available for reporting.
5. Click on the Add Criterion button in the lower left corner of this workspace to add criteria to your rubric.

6. Start filling out the fields corresponding to this criterion.

   1. Number: You can assign a number to specific criteria. It is not a required field, but it’s useful to complete it.
   2. Name: Assign a name. This field has a limit of 100 characters.
   3. Short name: If this field is left blank, the Name of the criterion will appear when the rubric is imported.
      1. This is the name that will identify the criterion on your rubric reports.
   4. Standards: Connect the criterion with the corresponding Standard(s) available in your Standards library.
      1. Aligning a rubric criterion to a standard allows you to collect data on students’ performance against a given accreditation standard, KPI, KOA, or SLO in addition to collecting data on the rubric criteria.
   5. Min. Acceptable Value: It can highlight the minimum acceptable value out of the values in the rubric. It defaults to 0.
      1. If the criterion is aligned to one or more standards, the minimum acceptable value will be used to determine whether the student meets or does not meet the aligned standard or standards.
   6. Active: The default setting for the criterion is Active. Toggle to Deactivate as needed.
   7. Active Date: Not required.
   8. Inactive Date: Not required.

As needed: Repeat step 6 to Add more criteria to the rubric.

7. More Criteria Options: Click on the vertical ellipsis in a criterion’s cell to display options

   1. Move Up: Move the criterion up a row on the grid
   2. Move Down: Move the criterion down a row
   3. Add New: Add a new criterion beneath the selected criterion
   4. Duplicate: Duplicate the selected criterion
   5. Delete: Delete the selected criterion
   6. NOTE: Deleting criteria from rubrics that have already been used will result in a loss of data from rubric and accreditation reports
8. Proceed to designate performance levels for the criteria. Click on the Add Level button in the lower right corner of this workspace.

9. Complete the fields displayed:

   1. Level Name: Name the level according to your scoring values, for instance: Above Expectations, Meets Expectations, Below Expectations, et cetera.
   2. Level Value: Required field. It must be a numeric value. No two levels can have the same value. The value of 0 can be used for both N/A and the lowest score.
   3. N/A: It allows for a N/A selection. If this option is selected when a form is completed, it doesn’t appear when a rubric report is run.
   4. Descriptions: Add a descriptions of this performance level for each criterion as needed in the grid layout. Not required.
10. More Level Options: Click on the vertical ellipsis in the performance level cell to access these options.

    1. Move Left: Move the rating level to the left in the grid
    2. Move Right: Move the rating level to the right in the grid
    3. Add New: Add a new rating level to the right of the selected level
    4. Duplicate: Duplicate the selected level
    5. Delete: Delete the selected level
    6. Note: Deleting levels of rubrics that have already been used will result in a loss of data from rubric and accreditation reports
