XLSTAT: How to Fix "Excel Is Either Not Installed on Your Mac or Does Not Meet the Minimum Version Requirement"

Error

When you try to open XLSTAT on your Mac, you see this error:

"Excel is either not installed on your Mac or does not meet the minimum version requirement"

This error occurs when:

• Microsoft Excel is not installed in the standard Applications folder on your Mac
• Excel is installed but in a different location (such as the Desktop or Downloads folder)
• Your Excel version is older than the minimum version required by XLSTAT

Solution

Follow these steps to fix the problem.

Step 1: Check if Excel Is Installed Correctly

1. Open Finder on your Mac.
2. Navigate to Applications folder (press Cmd + Shift + A for quick access).
3. Look for one of these:
   • Microsoft Excel.app
   • Excel.app

4. If you see Excel here, move to Step 2 below.
5. If you don't see Excel, it may be located elsewhere on your computer. Use Spotlight Search (press Cmd + Space) and type "Excel" to find it.

Step 2: Move Excel to the Applications Folder (If Needed)

If Excel is installed but located in a different folder (Desktop, Downloads, or elsewhere):

1. Locate the Excel file using Finder or Spotlight Search.
2. Right-click on the Excel.app file and select Cut (or press Cmd + X).
3. Open the Applications folder (Cmd + Shift + A).
4. Right-click in the empty space and select Paste (or press Cmd + V).
5. Wait for the file to transfer to the Applications folder.

Step 3: Verify Your Excel Version

XLSTAT requires a specific minimum Excel version. Check which version you have:

1. Open Excel.
2. Click on Excel in the menu bar at the top.
3. Select "About Microsoft Excel".
4. Note your version number.
5. Compare your version with the supported versions here: Supported Systems for XLSTAT

If your Excel version is older than the minimum requirement, you will need to update it through the Microsoft Office Update tool.

After Making These Changes

1. Close Excel if it is open.
2. Open Excel again.
3. Open XLSTAT (from the Excel menu or ribbon).
4. Check if the error has disappeared.
