Reproducing a Simulation Seed in @RISK

If you ran a simulation with the random number seed set to "Choose Randomly", you can find out which seed was actually used to reproduce the results later.

Option 1: @RISK Version 8 or without Quick Reports

• Use the function RiskSimulationInfo to determine the seed number.

 

Option 2: Quick Reports (pre-@RISK 8)

• If Quick Reports were generated automatically, look in the Simulation Summary Information block.

• The Random Seed item shows the actual seed used.

 

Option 3: Using VBA (no outputs needed)

1. Press Alt+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor.

2. Press F7 to open a code window.

3. Paste the following code:

Sub StoreSeed()
    Risk.Simulation.Settings.RandomSeed = _
        Risk.Simulation.Results.RandomNumberSeed
End Sub

4. Click anywhere inside the StoreSeed routine and press F5 to run.

   • This sets @RISK’s Simulation Settings → Sampling → Random Seed to the seed used in the last simulation.

   • Future simulations will use this fixed seed.

Notes:

• Keeping the macro in the workbook changes Excel 2007+ to .XLSM format and may trigger a macro security prompt.

• You can delete the macro before saving; the fixed seed remains in Simulation Settings.

• Save the workbook to preserve the seed for reproducibility.
