Which version of SQL should I install to work with @RISK? Can it be local or remote?

 

Answer

SQL is only required if you plan to use the @RISK Library feature. Whether it needs to be local or remote depends on your setup.

• @RISK Libraries can reside locally, remotely, or both.

• Local libraries: You need compatible SQL Server software on your computer.

• Remote libraries: Your computer needs SQL Server or SQL client software. The server hosting the databases must have compatible SQL Server and run a Windows Server edition.

Compatible SQL versions (2005 or later):

• SQL Server 2012 Express: Download

• SQL Server 2008 Express: Instructions (ignore the Backward Compatibility patch for 2008 Express)

• SQL Native Client 9.0, 10.0, or 11.0 (if all libraries are on remote servers)

• On 32-bit Windows: install 32-bit SQL

• On 64-bit Windows: 32-bit or 64-bit SQL works with 32-bit or 64-bit Excel

Notes:

• Databases themselves can be local, remote, or a mix.

• Always ensure that the SQL version is compatible with your operating system and @RISK version.
