License Types for RDK, BDK, EDK, and RODK

Applies to:

• BestFit Developer Kit 4.1 (BDK)

• Evolver Developer Kit 4.1 (EDK)

• @RISK Developer Kit 4.1 (RDK)

• RISKOptimizer Developer Kit 4.1 (RODK)

Overview of Developer Kits

• The RDK includes the BDK.

• The RODK includes the BDK, EDK, and RDK.

How Developer Kit Licenses Are Defined

Each Developer Kit (DK) license is specified by three elements:

1. Edition

   • End-User

   • Server

   • Developer

   • Demo

2. License Type

   • Network or Non-Network

   • (Applies to End-User and Server Editions)

3. Maximum Simultaneous Users

   • Applies to Server Edition and Network license types

License Editions Explained

Developer Edition

• Allows full simulation and optimization, like other editions.

• Includes examples and documentation needed to build applications using a DK.

• Displays daily reminder (“nag”) screens to prevent use for deployment.

Demo Edition

• Used to demo or test an application without purchasing a DK license for that machine.

• Functions for 30 days per PC.

• Installer is found in the Redistribution Demo folder after installing the Developer Edition.

End-User Edition

• Purchased to deploy desktop applications built with a DK.

• Installed on each user’s machine where simulations or optimizations will run.

Server Edition

• Purchased to deploy server-client applications, such as web applications.

• The DK is installed on a single server, and all simulations or optimizations run there.

• Multiple users submit requests (for example, through web browsers), but computation occurs on the server.

Network and Citrix/Terminal Services Deployments

When many desktop users at the same organization need access, a Citrix or Terminal Services deployment may be preferable:

• Use the Server Edition with a Network license type.

• Install the DK, license manager, and client components on the server.

• Users access the application through the server environment.

This approach is generally easier to manage and more commonly used than installing individual End-User licenses.
