Why Associate a Class with a Program?

When a Class Is Associated with a Program	When a Class Is Not Associated with a Program
All documents initiated in the class as class assignments will be associated with the program that the class is associated with, so students who are associated with multiple programs will not need to choose between their programs each time they start a new document.	Students who are a part of multiple programs will need to choose which program each document is associated with whenever they begin a new document as a part of a class assignment.
Program faculty and administrators can reliably report on data gathered in class assignments since they will all be aggregated under the same program.	Data gathered from class assignments could be saved across disparate programs, making reliable reporting more difficult.
Faculty can use the group assessment tool to evaluate all students in the class at once on assessment rubrics.	Faculty cannot use the group assessment tool and will need to evaluate each student individually.
The video assessment tool can be used in classes associated with a program since the video assessment feature is enabled or disabled at the program level.	The video assessment tool cannot be used.

If a class includes students from multiple programs, it can't be associated with one program. It's best to use programs as the largest grouping for students in a similar discipline. Specializations and cohorts can further group students by characteristics like concentration or matriculation date.

Note: The video assessment tool is only available for programs with a signed Business Associate Agreement with Experiential Learning Cloud. Contact your success manager to implement this.
