How to control the execution order of questions

Overview

SurveyToGo provides built-in support for displaying a group of questions in a random order through the chapter's randomization settings. For more information, see Randomizing Survey Questions, Answers, and Topics.

With the built-in randomization feature, the system determines the display order internally. The resulting question order is not stored and is therefore not available in the exported data.

This guide demonstrates an alternative approach that allows you to control the randomization process while also saving the final question order in a variable. The stored order can then be exported and used for reporting, data analysis, or additional survey logic.

The attached sample survey shows how to implement this technique.

Survey Description

The survey retrieves the randomization order used in Chapter 1, as described in the guide above, and saves it in an Expression question at index 8.

Based on the saved order, the survey uses a Start Question at index 9 and an End Question at index 16.

The General Jump Rule then uses these indexes, together with the saved randomization order, to display the questions in the required order.
