Checklist to Follow Before Starting Fieldwork

Overview

Before beginning fieldwork, it is important to verify that your survey, devices, and project configuration are fully prepared.

This article provides a recommended checklist to help ensure a smooth and successful data collection process.

Before Starting Fieldwork

Before deploying your survey to the field, confirm that the following tasks have been completed:

• The survey has been thoroughly tested, including testing on the devices using the data collection application version planned for fieldwork.

• Test data has been successfully exported to the format required by your data processing team.

• The data processing team has reviewed the test data and approved the exported data structure, consistency, and validity.

• Interviewers have been trained or have participated in a pilot study.

If all of the above has been completed, you are almost ready to begin fieldwork.

Final Fieldwork Checklist

Before launching your project, verify the following:

• Quota targets have been configured (where applicable). See Advanced Quota Sheets.

• All test interviews have been set to Cancelled status. This also releases any quotas consumed by the test interviews.

• Interviewers have been assigned to the appropriate projects and surveys. See How to Assign Surveyors to Projects and Surveys.

• All devices are running the required version of the SurveyToGo data collection application.

• All devices can successfully connect to the server and synchronize surveys. See Using the Android Data Collection App.

• All devices are able to capture GPS coordinates correctly. See How to Validate That Location Information Is Captured by SurveyToGo.

• The survey has been switched to Production mode. See Survey Modes.
