Configuring Azure Maps for Sonia

Introduction

In order for addresses to be plotted on a map, Sonia recommends an integration with Azure Maps.

Steps for obtaining an Azure Maps API Keys:

1. A user with Azure administrative access will need to go to the Azure Portal (portal.azure.com)
2. Search Resources, Services, and Docs for “Azure Maps Accounts”
3. Create an account or select an existing account
   1. This is free to add, but the account will be charged for usage in excess of 5,000 geolocation calls per month. Pricing Tier info here.
4. Within an Azure Maps Account, go to “Authentication”
5. Find the Primary and Secondary Keys
6. Copy the keys

Adding the Azure Map API Keys to Sonia:

1. Return to Sonia
2. Open School Options > Integrations
3. In the Mapping Services section, paste the Primary Key
4. Click OK to save and close School Options

Important notes:

• Do NOT apply the keys in University Options
• While it is possible to share a Key across multiple schools, it is recommended that a separate Key be used for each School, especially if they are large, due to Azure charging a fee if surpassing the usage quota.
