Placement Clash Protection

When automatically allocating students, a concern is knowing whether this allocation will clash with another existing allocation, either in the same placement group or a different one.

Sonia provides rules to guide the allocation algorithms when placing students. These rules can be found in an individual Placement Group > Settings > Placement settings > under the heading Clash protection.

At the top level, clash protection will check the placement dates (taking into account differing placement request dates) for the student’s allocations. However, it is important to note that simply enabling Students cannot be placed on the same/overlapping dates will not have any effect unless you tell Sonia how to apply this rule. Either Within this placement group or Within any other active placement group or both.

Further granularity can be applied, and Sonia can take into consideration placement request shifts or/and start/end times. Here is where to find the rules:

Below is a table showing how enabled rules will impact student allocations. Along the top are the variations you may have with your placements, such as dates, shifts etc… and this is comparing to an existing allocation for the student. Along the side are the clash protection rules. A green tick indicates that a student will be allocated, and a grey box means an allocation will not occur.
