Error:

"The operation couldn't be completed. (CodeOnExistingNodes error 2.)" on NVivo Mac

 

Cause: 

There are a couple of possible reasons for this error.

1. There was a temporary bug on Macs running NVivo 15 where it would occur when coding pdf files.  It has been addressed in release 15.2.1 which can be downloaded from the Download area on the left hand side of the MyLumivero portal page
2. There is an unexpected character in the document (a form-feed for example). The user can view + edit the document, but not code it. 

 

Solution: (If not NVivo Mac 15.2.1)

1. Open the document and enter edit mode by enabling the Edit checkbox in the Detail View

2. Add and remove a character from the file.

   • This will trigger NVivo to re-save the document which will remove the unexpected characters.

3. Exit edit mode by disabling the Edit checkbox

Once the steps above are completed, coding of the document should work again. 

If this doesn't fix the error, re-import the file into a new folder under the Files section.
