NVivo AI Cloud: About NVivo AI Cloud

What is NVivo AI Cloud?

NVivo AI Cloud is a qualitative research intelligence platform that brings the full arc of a qualitative study into one connected workspace. It is a browser-based product, different from the desktop version of NVivo.

It is a single integrated environment for qualitative and mixed-methods research. Instead of switching between separate tools for brainstorming, literature management, data collection, coding, analysis, and reporting, NVivo AI Cloud brings together the steps a researcher usually spreads across separate tools, literature review, coding, analysis, and theory building into one connected workspace, where everything in a project stays visible, connected, and explorable at once.

The core principle is simple: every insight maintains an unbroken chain back to the source data. When you look at a finding, you can trace it through the concept it belongs to, the codes that support it, the specific excerpts those codes are attached to, and the original source document. Nothing is a black box. Everything is visible, connected, and explorable.

Who is NVivo AI Cloud for?

NVivo AI Cloud is designed primarily for academic social science researchers conducting qualitative or mixed-methods studies. This includes:

• PhD students working on their dissertations

• Postdoctoral researchers

• Lecturers and professors

It also serves corporate and applied researchers who use qualitative methods.

It suits people who run studies that involve reading and interpreting large bodies of unstructured material, such as interview transcripts, field notes, PDFs, and published literature. It fits work where methodological transparency matters: coding excerpts, building a codebook, surfacing themes across a corpus, and developing findings that must hold up to scrutiny.

Why Choose NVivo AI Cloud?

Researchers today juggle a fragmented ecosystem: ChatGPT for brainstorming, Google Scholar for literature, reference managers like Citavi or Zotero, data collection tools like Qualtrics or Zoom, QDA software like NVivo or ATLAS.ti for coding, Excel or SPSS for quantitative analysis, and Word or PowerPoint for reporting. Each tool has its own interface, its own data format, and its own way of working. Context is lost at every handoff.

NVivo AI Cloud replaces that fragmentation with one synchronized workspace. AI assists at every stage, but the researcher always remains in control. Every AI suggestion requires human confirmation. The audit trail records what the AI generated, what the researcher confirmed, and what the researcher created independently.

What is AURA?

AURA (AI-powered Unified Research Assistant) is NVivo AI Cloud's intelligent assistant, designed to take on the clerical weight of a research project while leaving the analysis where it belongs with you. AURA assists with reading, summarizing, organizing, and generating suggestions, but every methodological decision, coding judgment, and interpretation is yours to make.

AURA responds to your thinking; it doesn't replace it. Your project begins with what you bring: your project description and your research questions, entered in your own words. AURA then works from what you've written: refining your questions, flagging ambiguities, and suggesting angles you may want to consider. You accept, edit, or dismiss each suggestion.

AURA works with your methodology. At launch, AURA supports a single, methodology-neutral approach to getting started, Initial Topics, designed to be adapted to a range of qualitative methodologies. AURA proposes initial topics grounded in your data; how you use them is your methodological choice. If you're working inductively, you may prefer to read and annotate your sources first, then treat AURA's suggestions as a comparison point against your own emerging ideas rather than a starting scaffold. If you're working from an existing framework, you can direct AURA toward the topics your framework specifies and build your codebook from there. Support for named methodologies is on our roadmaps, so that the approach you choose will directly shape how AURA behaves in your project. approach, AURA helps you scaffold a codebook from your framework at the outset.

At key checkpoints throughout your project, you review AURA's output before anything becomes part of your analysis: research question refinements, identified cases and suggested variables, source summaries, proposed topics, and codes. Nothing is decided for you, every suggestion waits for your confirmation, modification, or rejection, and you can attach your reasoning to any decision via a research process memo so your audit trail records not just what you decided, but why.

Every AURA suggestion links back to your source material, an excerpt, interview, or document. So, you can always verify a recommendation against the words of your participants. Summaries work the same way: each one sits alongside its full source, as a guide into the material rather than a substitute for reading it.
