Adding and Removing Position Details in Sonia

Introduction

A “position” refers to the specific details of a student’s placement, including their mentor/site supervisor, university supervisor, and other individual info.

Sonia assumes each student at a site may have different position details.
Note: Terminology below follows Sonia’s defaults.

Adding/Removing Positions via Placement Groups

On the Home screen, under the heading Active Placement Groups:

• Double click the placement group record in the list to open the record
• A  Placement Groups window will open

• The module will open to the  Overview screen
• Click  Worksheet
• Click the Placement fields button to choose which placement fields to view
  • Most common are First Name, Last Name (of students), Site, Mentor, Supervisor
• Click the Position fields button to choose which position fields to view
  • Most common are Supervisor and Mentor; Teacher Education programs often also select Grade and Class
  • If the student will have more than one Mentor and/or more than one Supervisor, choose ‘Supervisor Position Title’ and ‘Mentor Position Title’ to indicate what role each person has with the student.
• Click the Search button next to the Position fields button
• Single-click on a placement row
• Click the  Add button at the far right
  • The Positions level will expand under the placement information
  • Click in the empty space below the column heading to add details.
  • If a Supervisor’s name does not appear, click ‘Add New’ to choose from your list of active Supervisors.
  • To add an additional Position to a student (for example, if a student has more than one Mentor and/or Supervisor), repeat the steps above.
  • To collapse the Position details, click theto the left of the student’s name.
• Click  Save.

Removing Positions

In the  Placement Groups module, on the  Worksheet screen:

• Click the Search button next to the Position fields button
• Single-click on a student’s placement
• To expand the Position details, click the black to the left of the student’s name
• Click on the Position row you wish to remove
• Click  to the right of the position table
• Click  Save

Adding/removing positions via a student’s placement record

On the Home screen, single-click the Students module

• Find and select the student from the Active students pane at the left
• Click the student’s Placement button
• Double-click the placement group in which the placement is housed
• Click the Positions button
  • To add a new position, click the   Add button
  • To edit an existing position, click on the position to be edited
    • Click the edit pencil  at the right
    • Make the necessary edits
    • Click OK
  • To remove a position, select an existing position
    • Click  to remove
• Click  Save

Adding/Removing Positions via a Site’s Placement Request Record

On the Home screen, single-click the Sites module

• Find and select the Site from the Active sites pane at the left
• Click the site’s Placement Requests button
• Double-click the placement group in which the placement is housed
• Click the Placements button
• Double-click the placement on which the position needs to be edited
• Click the Positions button
  • To add a new position, click the   Add button
  • To edit an existing position, click on the position to be edited
    • Click the edit pencil  at the right
    • Make the necessary edits, and click OK
  • To remove a position, select an existing position
    • Click  to remove
• Click  Save.
