XLSTAT: How to Fix "Cannot Add the List of Results at the Top of Report"

When you run an XLSTAT analysis in Microsoft Excel, you want to add a list of results (table of contents) at the top of your report. However, the option is not available, grayed out, or the list does not appear in your results.

This prevents you from viewing an organized summary of all the analysis results in your report, which makes it harder to navigate large output files.

This issue occurs because Excel's security setting "Trust access to the VBA project object model" is not enabled in your Excel Options. XLSTAT needs this permission to add the results list feature to your report.

Solution 1: Enable VBA Project Access (Recommended)

If you have permission to change Excel settings, follow these steps.

For Windows

1. Open Microsoft Excel.

2. Click File in the top left corner.

3. Click Options at the bottom of the menu.

4. Click Trust Center in the left sidebar.

5. Click "Trust Center Settings" button.

6. Click Macro Settings in the left sidebar.

7. Find the option "Trust access to the VBA project object model" (scroll down if necessary).

8. Check the checkbox next to this option to enable it.

9. Click OK to close the Trust Center Settings.

10. Click OK again to close the Excel Options window.

11. Restart Excel (close it completely and reopen it).

12. Run your XLSTAT analysis again and verify that the results list option is now available.

For Mac

1. Open Microsoft Excel on your Mac.

2. Click Excel in the menu bar at the top of your screen.

3. Click Preferences.

4. Look for the "Sharing and Privacy" section and click Security.

5. Find the option "Trust access to the VBA project object model".

6. Check the checkbox to enable it.

7. Close the Preferences window.

8. Restart Excel (press Cmd + Q to quit Excel, then reopen it).

9. Run your XLSTAT analysis again and verify that the results list option is now available.

Solution 2: Disable Report Headers (If You Cannot Change Excel Settings)

If you cannot change Excel settings due to company restrictions or IT policies, you can remove the report header buttons. This allows the analysis to run without requiring VBA project access.

Important: This solution has limitations. By disabling report headers, you will lose access to these features:

• Relaunching (re-running) the analysis

• Removing the analysis grid from the report

• Exporting results to Word or PowerPoint

• Displaying the list of results at the top of the report

Only use this solution if you do not need these features, or if you cannot enable VBA access.

Steps to Disable Report Headers

1. Open XLSTAT in Excel.

2. Click XLSTAT in the ribbon or menu.
   

3. Click Options (or Settings).

4. Look for a section called "Report" or "Output Options".

5. Find the option "Display report headers" or "Show header buttons".

6. Uncheck the checkbox to disable report headers.
   

7. Click OK or Apply to save your changes.

8. Run your XLSTAT analysis again.

The analysis will now run without the header buttons, and you will not see an error. However, the results list feature will not be available.

If You Need These Features

If you need to use the results list, relaunch, export to Word/PowerPoint, or other header features, you must have VBA project access enabled.

Contact Your IT Department

If your computer is managed by your company's IT department:

1. Contact your IT Help Desk or IT Support.

2. Request that they enable the following setting in Excel:

   • "Trust access to the VBA project object model" (in Excel Options > Trust Center > Macro Settings)

3. Explain that this is needed for XLSTAT software to function properly.

4. Ask if they can enable it for your user account or computer.

5. Once enabled, restart Excel and run XLSTAT again.

Many IT departments can enable this setting without compromising security, as it only allows access to the VBA project object model (not a general security risk).
