Error/Behavior: 

"Object variable or With block variable not set"

Ribbons don't work

@RISK or WhatIf ribbon appears but none of the buttons do anything

 

Background:

This error can originate in Excel, in DTS code, or in your own macros if you are using an .XLSM file.

In general, it indicates that the VBA code used a variable without first initializing it properly.

There are several possible solutions. 

Below are causes we have seen when assisting customers, along with their corresponding fixes.

 

1. Software Installed Without Administrative Rights

Description:
This message can occur if the software was installed without administrative privileges.

Solution:

1. 1. Right-click the installer file.

   2. Select Run as Administrator.

   3. When prompted, choose Repair.

      • If you are not given the option to repair or modify, the installer will perform a full reinstall instead.

2. Conflicts with other Add-ins

   1. Solution: Find and Fix Startup Conflicts

3. Error Occurs without an Error Number

   1. Solution: Removing Outdated References to Office from the System Registry

4. The Installation of Excel is corrupted.

   1. Solution: Repair of Excel

5. Problematic DEP settings

   1. Solution: Data Execution Prevention

6. @RISK/DTS Toolbars Manually Added

   1. Solution:

      1. Run Excel and remove the toolbars that you manually added. The instructions vary according to your version of Excel.

      2. Moving forward, launch the software through the desktop icon or through the Windows start menu

7. Installation Conflicts

   1. Causes:
      1. A new 32-bit version of MS Project was installed and then it was uninstalled and replaced by a 64-bit version of MS Project.
      2. A new 64-bit version of MS Project was installed and then it was uninstalled and replaced by a 32-bit version of MS Project.
   2. Solutions:
      1. install @Risk on another device.
      2. Deactivate @Risk, uninstall and reinstall Windows and Office
