Why correlated inputs are not correlated when pressing F9 in Excel

Problem
You have defined correlations between input distributions using the RiskCorrmat function and set @RISK’s standard recalculation mode to Random.

When you press F9 to recalculate the Excel worksheet, the correlated inputs do not appear to be correlated.

Explanation
This behavior is by design. The F9 key triggers a normal Excel recalculation, not an @RISK simulation. Correlations defined with RiskCorrmat are applied only during an actual @RISK simulation run.

Why this happens
RiskCorrmat functions become active only when @RISK is running a simulation. During ordinary Excel recalculation, each @RISK distribution samples independently, even if a correlation matrix has been defined.

What to do instead
To see the effects of correlation, run a full @RISK simulation using the Start Simulation command.

• Correlated sampling will then be applied correctly, and the resulting statistics, graphs, and outputs will reflect the specified correlations.
