Convergence and Auto Iterations

Applies to: @RISK 6.1.1 and newer

Issue:
You set iterations to Auto for convergence, but @RISK stops at 50,000 iterations even though not all outputs have converged.

Explanation:

• By default, @RISK caps Auto Stop at 50,000 iterations to prevent indefinite simulation runs.

• Some models may require more iterations to converge. Setting a higher fixed number of iterations disables convergence monitoring.

Solution (change the 50,000-iteration limit):

1. Create a workbook-level name in Excel:

   • Go to Formulas → Name Manager → New

   • Name: RiskMaxItersForAutoStop

   • Refers to: =100000 (or your desired maximum; the leading = is required)

2. With iterations set to Auto, @RISK will stop when:

   • Outputs converge or

   • RiskMaxItersForAutoStop iterations are reached, whichever comes first

Notes:

• During simulation, the progress window shows percent complete based on 50,000 iterations by default.

• If you set RiskMaxItersForAutoStop higher, percent complete can exceed 100% if more iterations are needed.
