Problem

When trying to open a project, Citavi rejects a license or a license key.

Cause

The license / license key is only valid for a specific version of Citavi.

Solution

Citavi 6 and Citavi 7 get the license from your Citavi account. No license key is needed. Make sure you are logged in to the desktop version.

Check whether you are working with the latest version of Citavi. The version number is displayed at the bottom left of the Welcome Screen.

You can also download the latest version here. Double-click the Citavi7Setup.exe file to start the installation of the update and then log in to Citavi 7 with your account information.

If you want to work Citavi 6, download it here under Previous Versions and log in to your Citavi account.

If you want to work with Citavi 5, download it here under Previous Versions and then enter your license key after installation. Your Citavi Account allows Citavi 7 site license users to request a license key for a previous version of Citavi.
