Overview

Empower students and site supervisors to drive field experience success with Experiential Learning Cloud’s Video Assessment offering that delivers contextualized, actionable feedback to students.

How to Create Video Assignments

1. Go to the Program Management | Staff & Students environment, then to the Groups workspace.

2. Click the Add button to create a new group or find an existing group to add the assignment to.

3. In the Details tab, establish the details for your group.
NOTE: Within the details tab, the class must be associated with a program. Video assignments can only be set up in groups that are associated with programs where the video assessment tool has been enabled.

4. Go to the Assignments tab and click the Add button in the upper right corner to create a new assignment.

5. Give the assignment a name (e.g. Video Recording 1).

6. The assignment type will be “Video” for any assignment relating to video uploads or video comments.

7. After selecting the Video assignment type, select what kind of video documentation is being uploaded (if the specific video type is not listed select "Other").

8. Go down to Approval Process within the assignment builder and click on the plus (+) icon to add a commenter and/or reviewer to the assignment.

   • The Commenting process allows users to add time-stamped comments to the video as they review it.

     • Commenters are identified by their role in Experiential Learning Cloud. Options include:

       • Faculty: A faculty member with supervision over the student will view the video and provide time-stamped comments

       • Supervisor: The student’s site supervisor will view the video and provide time-stamped comments.

       • Student (assignee): The student will view their own video and provide comments.

       •  Student (non-assignee): The student will share the video with a peer, who will be able to view the video and provide comments.

     • Check the "Has Standards" box to associate a comment step with assessment standards. Choose one or more lists of standards, from which commenters can choose individual requirements when viewing a student's video.

     • The commenter, when reviewing the assignment, should be able to select individual requirement from the standards and link them to time-stamped comments

   • The Review Process functions similarly to review in other assignment types, in which a reviewer can either approve a video or request changes if necessary. Reviewers cannot add comments.

NOTE: You may add multiple reviewers and commenters to each video assignment. However, if you allow multiple people to comment on the same assignment, they will be able to view each other’s comments.

NOTE: Review steps should always come after commenting steps. If a review step precedes commenting, the subsequent commenters will be unable to add comments to the video.

Separate Assignments for Commenting

If multiple users should view and comment on a video, but should not see each other’s comments, you can create separate assignments specifically for that purpose.

To do so:

1. Create a video assignment following steps 1-7 from above.

2. Instead of adding reviewers or commenters directly to the video upload assignment, create an additional video assignment for commenting (e.g. Video Recording 1 - Peer Comments.)

3. In the assignment details, set the existing video upload assignment (Video Recording 1) as a prerequisite to the commenting assignment (Video Recording 1 - Peer Comments).

4. Be sure to check the “Include prior attachment from pre-requisite” box so the video is attached.

5. In the Approval Process space, select the plus (+) button to add a Commenter.

6. Identify the role of the first commenter on this assignment.

7. Repeat steps 2-6 to create more assignments for any additional commenters on the assignment.

Additional Information about Commenters on Video Assignments:

1. When adding commenters to assignments, keep the following in mind:

   1. If there are multiple commenters on an assignment, they will be able to see each other’s comments

   2. If there are multiple commenters on an assignment, they may try to review the video and comment on it at the same time. The system will not let them do so, so one commenter will have to wait until the other commenter has submitted their comments.

2. If you want to have multiple commenters add comments independently of one another, create additional assignments for commenting.

3. Assignments which are set up for commenting will still have the “Video” assignment type. However, these assignments should be set up with a pre-requisite of the original video assignment so that the assignee does not need to upload the same video multiple times.

4. Check the “include attachments from pre-requisite” box so that the video from the initial video assignment is pulled into this commenting assignment

5. Add one commenter per assignment, if you do not want overlap between commenters.
