How Can I Set Duration Distributions for Many Tasks in @RISK Project Models?

Question:
I want to assign distributions to task durations for a large schedule. Doing it one task at a time is slow. Is there a better way?

Answer:
Yes—two faster methods:

1. Use the Parameter Entry Table:

   • In @RISK, go to Project → Model Tools → Parameter Entry Table.

   • Example available at: Help → Example Spreadsheets → Project Management → Parameter Entry Table.

   • Tip: Select “Also Add Entry Table to .MPP in Microsoft Project”.

     • This lets you edit distribution parameters directly in the Project file without opening @RISK.

     • When you reopen the Excel workbook or use Sync Now, @RISK copies the values from the MPP file into Excel.

2. Propagate via Excel:

   • Set one distribution in @RISK, then use Excel features to copy it to other tasks:

     • Copy/Paste or click-and-drag to fill multiple tasks quickly.

Summary:
The Parameter Entry Table is ideal for global editing of distributions, especially for large schedules, while Excel copy/drag can propagate distributions efficiently once one is defined.
