Can @RISK and WhatIf Work with Excel Tables?

Do @RISK and WhatIf work with Excel tables, data tables, and pivot tables?

Answer:

Excel Tables and Data Tables

• @RISK and WhatIf can handle standard Excel tables and data tables without special action.

• If the table contains @RISK functions, it is re-evaluated every iteration, which may slow simulations.

• Removing @RISK functions from data tables can speed up simulations if they aren’t needed.

Pivot Tables

• Pivot tables are not automatically recalculated during @RISK simulations.

• If a pivot table depends on @RISK functions:

  • Create an after-iteration macro that calls Excel’s RefreshTable method.

  • Register the macro in @RISK’s Simulation Settings → Macros tab.

• WhatIf does not execute macros, so pivot tables depending on its inputs may not update correctly. Pivot tables not linked to inputs are fine.
