Simulation Runs but Browse Results or Define Distributions Do Nothing

Symptoms:

• Clicking Browse Results or Define Distributions does nothing.

• Clicking Fit Distributions shows the initial dialog, but clicking Fit gives the error:
  “Non-modal forms cannot be displayed in this host application from an ActiveX DLL, ActiveX Control, or Property Page.”

Step 1: Confirm the issue isn’t another problem

Possible Causes & Solutions:

Solution 1: Verify Visual Basic 6 Runtime

• Ensure your VB6 runtime is installed and up to date.

Solution 2: Check for incompatible add-ins

• Certain Excel add-ins can prevent @RISK windows from opening. Known examples:

  • Laserfiche Office Integration 8.3 (Office plugins must be uninstalled via Laserfiche installer).

  • Morningstar Commodity (some versions block Define Distribution and Browse Results).

• To check active add-ins:

  1. Click File → Options → Add-Ins.

  2. Active add-ins appear in the first list on the right.

  3. Note the add-in type (Excel or COM) in the last column.

  4. At the bottom, choose the type in Manage, click Go, and deactivate all add-ins except core Excel add-ins.

  5. Close and reopen Excel.

Solution 3: Clean uninstall/reinstall

• Uninstall @RISK completely and reinstall. This resolves the issue in some cases.
