FAQ: Converting a Trial or Standalone Copy to a Concurrent Network Client

Question

Can I convert a trial or activated standalone copy to a Concurrent Network client?

Answer

Yes. You can convert without uninstalling or reinstalling the software, but the user will need to be connected to your network to run it. Temporary off-network use is possible:

• See Server Manager Options: License Borrowing for the server procedure
• See Borrowing a Concurrent Network License for Use off Network for the end-user procedure.

If the client has an activated standalone license, deactivate it first (optional if only a trial is installed). You may consult Technical Support for unusual scenarios. Conversion requires full administrative rights.

Conversion Procedure

1. Create a REG file:

   • Open Notepad and paste the text for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows (examples below).

   • Replace the last line with your lmgrd port number and server name (from DTS Server Manager). If the port is “Dynamic,” omit it but keep the @.

   • Save the file with a .REG extension and copy it to the client computer.

2. Deactivate existing license (if needed):

   • Launch the software (answer Yes to admin prompt if running remotely).

   • Open License Manager via Help » License Manager.

   • Select the activated license, click Deactivate, and follow prompts.

   • If automatic deactivation fails, use Manual Deactivation » Save Request File and submit to Technical Support.

   • Close Excel after deactivation completes.

3. Apply REG file:

   • Double-click the .REG file to convert the workstation to a Concurrent Network client.
