Overview

There are classes that require some students to complete an assignment or multiple assignments, that other students do not need to complete.

The best practice is for the program admin to add all assignments that could potentially be needed by students, faculty, or supervisors in the class templates.

How do I set this up?

1. Program admin creates all assignments in the class template that could potentially be required for students in class sections.

   1. Examples of additional assignments some students may need to complete that others may not include:

      1. If a student has multiple sites/agencies or more than 1 site supervisor/field instructor, the student may need multiple mid-term or final evaluations completed, 1 per supervisor.

      2. If a student has multiple site supervisors/field instructors, you may prefer for them to turn in 2 separate time reports, 1 per supervisor.

      3. Your university/school may have documents in a course that may need to be completed based on a student’s certain circumstances.

2. In the class template, the potential additional assignments should not be assigned to any students. See the screenshot below.

3. The faculty instructor or program admin can later assign these assignments to the specific students that will need to complete them. This ensures that the additional assignments will be hidden from students who they are not directly assigned to, creating a cleaner student experience.

Please note: If you would rather assign them to the whole class, rather than to students individually, you can make them Optional rather than Required so students are aware that they aren’t required. This may be best practice when the program faculty don’t know exactly which students will need the additional assignments.

EXAMPLE: Here is an example of what a list of assignments might look like for a class where some students have multiple sites/agencies:
