NVivo: What security measures are present in NVivo Collaboration Server?

During the installation process for NVivo Collaboration Server, you can choose to use an SSL certificate to host NVivo Collaboration Server Manager. This creates a secure connection (HTTPS) between NVivo Collaboration Server Manager, NVivo Collaboration Server and the NVivo client. It means that all communication is encrypted, ensuring privacy and data integrity.

NVivo: What security measures are present in NVivo Collaboration Server?

Answer

You can encrypt the connection using SSL certificate from the web browser that is used to access NVivo Collaboration Server Manager.

NVivo client connects directly to the WCF endpoints hosted by the Windows Service on the server. This is via a TCP connection and is already in a binary format which is not user readable.

The NVivo Client also establishes a direct connection to SQL Server on the server hosting NVivo Collaboration Server. This connection is also encrypted.

The NVivo Collaboration Server WCF Service uses TCP binding (NetTcpBinding) with integrated Windows authentication and Transport Security Mode. This means it authenticates NVivo Clients using Windows authentication (Kerberos), and the messages are secured (signed & encrypted) at the transport level by Windows security. This is the Microsoft recommended approach for intranet (Windows domain) environments. No certificates are required as the Windows security infrastructure provides the necessary authentication and encryption.
