The Impact of Changes Made to a Production Survey

Overview

When making changes to a survey that is already in production, it is important to ensure that the changes do not affect data that has already been collected.

Before updating a production survey, review How to Make Safe Changes to a Production Survey for guidance on which modifications are safe to make.

After you save your changes, the survey version is incremented. Interviewers will receive the updated version only after performing a Sync Surveys operation, either manually or through automatic synchronization. Until then, they will continue using the previous survey version.

Important: When an interviewer synchronizes to a newer version of the survey, any stopped interviews will reopen from the beginning of the survey. This is necessary because changes to the survey structure or routing require the interview flow to be revalidated.

Previously entered answers are preserved. However, the interviewer will need to navigate through the survey again by selecting Next until reaching the point where the interview was previously stopped, provided the updated survey logic still allows access to that point.
