Location Question

Overview

A Location question is a type of question which allows the interviewer to capture their GPS location manually through:

1.  a given question
2. letting them choose a location from a map.

This HowTo describes adding a Location question to a survey.

Step 1: Adding a Location question

Add a new question and set it as a location question type.

This is how the question will look like on the device:

Click Capture GPS to record the device's current location based on its GPS reading.

The captured location is stored as the answer to the question, in addition to the latitude and longitude that SurveyToGo associates to every interview.

Step 2: Configuring the location question

Under the Question Answers tab, you can find several configurations.

See Configuring Questions in the Questions Node for configuration option details.

Step 3: Viewing the captured data

We can view the captured data (within this interview)  through the Operations console

Note: You can display predefined locations on the map by using the CreateMapMarker() function. This can help interviewers identify nearby landmarks or reference locations when capturing a GPS location.

Example:

The following code adds two predefined markers, KSP and Japanika, which are displayed when the map is opened:

function OnMapShowing(inCallback, inQuestionIndex, inIteration)
{
    inCallback.AddMarker(CreateMapMarker(CreateCoords(32.1746225,34.9264295), "KSP"));
    inCallback.AddMarker(CreateMapMarker(CreateCoords(32.170772,34.928223), "Japanika"));
    inCallback.setZoomLevel(8);
}

The map opens with the KSP and Japanika markers displayed, and the zoom level is set to 8.

Step 4: Configuration Example

Location Question Example:

"Capture your location"
* (This is the default view, it can be also configured to have a map and let the user choose a location)

Variables and Exporting Definitions

Location questions export as two different columns, one for the latitude of the captured location and the other for the longitude of the captured location.
