How to set an interview language by a script question

 

Overview

SurveyToGo supports multiple languages within a single survey.

By default, interviewers can switch between available languages using the Languages button in the data collection app during an interview.

Alternatively, you can allow the survey itself to control the interview language by presenting the interviewer with a language-selection question. This approach is useful when the interview language needs to be selected as part of the survey flow.

Step 1: Create a Language List Source

1. Open the survey's Advanced tab.

2. Click Edit List Sources.

3. Create a new list source and add the following code:

LanguageMgr.FillLanguageList(list);

This function automatically populates the list with all languages configured in the survey.

For example, you might create a list source named langs.

Step 2: Create a Language Selection Question

1. Add an External List question to the survey.

2. Link the question to the language list source created in Step 1.

3. Configure the question as a Single Choice question.

When displayed, this question will show all languages available in the survey, allowing the interviewer to select the preferred language.

Step 3: Apply the Selected Language

In the End Script of the External List question, add the following code:

LanguageMgr.SetLanguageByID(Answer(CurrQues));

How It Works

• Answer(CurrQues) returns the ID of the language selected by the interviewer.

• LanguageMgr.SetLanguageByID() changes the interview language to the selected language.

• All subsequent questions and text will be displayed in the newly selected language.

This provides a simple way to let interviewers choose the interview language directly within the survey flow.
