How To retrieve a single row from a subject store

Overview

This guide explains how to use the dblGetSubjectStoreRow() function to retrieve a row from a Subject Store.

The attached example demonstrates how to use the function to retrieve a book name from a Subject Store containing a list of books.

Note: The dblGetSubjectStoreRow() function uses the getTableFromStore() function internally.

Steps for Using dblGetSubjectStoreRow() in Your Survey

Step 1: Add the Excel File as a Subject Store

Upload the Excel file and add it as a Subject Store. Then attach the Subject Store to your survey.

Step 2: Use dblGetSubjectStoreRow() to Retrieve a Row

After adding the Excel file as a Subject Store and attaching it to the survey, you can use the dblGetSubjectStoreRow() function to retrieve a row using a key value.

For example, suppose your Subject Store is named Books and you want to retrieve the author of a book based on the value in the ID column:

var row = dblGetSubjectStoreRow("Books", "ID", Answer(QRef(1)));

 

if (row != null)

{

    SetTextFormat(CurrQues, row["author"]);

}

In this example:

• Books is the name of the Subject Store.
• ID is the key column used to locate the row.
• Answer(QRef(1)) provides the value to search for.
• If a matching row is found, the value from the author column is retrieved and displayed.

The returned row object allows you to access any column in the Subject Store by its column name.

Step 3: Pipe the Retrieved Value into a Question

Once you have retrieved the desired value, you can pipe it into a survey question.

Using the Sample

To try this example:

1. Import the attached survey into SurveyToGo Studio. See How to Import a Survey.
2. Add the attached Excel file as a Subject Store named Books.
3. Open Q1 and select the Books Subject Store on the Answers tab.
4. Run the survey to see how dblGetSubjectStoreRow() retrieves data from the Subject Store.
