How To: Translate the SurveyToGo Android Apps to a new language

Overview

The SurveyToGo Android applications (CAPI and Fieldwork Management) are used by interviewers to collect data and manage fieldwork. For the best user experience, the application interface should be displayed in the interviewer's local language.

While survey content can be translated by the survey scripter, the application's interface—including the login screen, buttons, menus, and other system text—is displayed in either English or one of the supported languages, depending on the device's regional settings.

If you need to translate the SurveyToGo Android application into a language that is not currently supported, follow the procedure described in this guide.

Translating The App to a different language

To translate the SurveyToGo Android application into a different language, follow these steps:

1. Download the SurveyToGo: Android apps strings zip file: https://dblstg.dooblo.net/downloads/android-strings-for-translation.zip
2. The zip file contains 5 Excel files that contain strings to be translated.
   1. These are strings that appear in the app.
   2.  Place the translated text in the relevant column as shown below:

3. Once you are done with the translations, please email both files to the Support Team from the Lumivero Support Hub and indicate from which language you have translated the texts.
   1. Our product management team will review the translations and if approved they will be incorporated in the next release of the Android app and you will be notified.
   2. This normally takes about 2-3 weeks.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

• You do not need to translate every string. Any strings that are left untranslated will continue to be displayed in English.

Important: If the original string contains placeholders such as %s, \n, [%1$d], or similar character sequences, be sure to preserve them exactly in the translated string. These placeholders are replaced with values at runtime and must remain unchanged.

The following screenshot illustrates some common placeholders:
