How To Dynamically Display Answer Images based on an answer of a question

Overview

SurveyToGo allows you to attach and display images as part of answer options.

One approach is to manually assign an image to each answer option. For more information, see Adding Images to Answers and Topics.

This guide demonstrates a dynamic approach, where images are assigned and displayed automatically based on the answer selected in another question. This technique allows the displayed images to change dynamically during the interview based on the respondent's previous responses.

Step 1: Add the wanted images to the survey

To upload images files to the survey:

1. Go to the survey’s advanced tab.
2. Click on the “Edit survey attachments” link.
3. Add your files through the “New” button:

Step 2: Create Attachment Source

For the example we will base the answers images on the following 3 answers:

1. Go to the survey Advanced tab and open the “Edit attachment source” link:

2. Click the + button to add a new Attachment Source, and enter a name for it.

To add images to the Attachment Source, use the following code:

   list.AddFromAttachment("ImageName", <Answer/Topic>Index);

Replace "ImageName" with the name of an image that has been uploaded to the survey.

For each answer in the question, add a corresponding section in the script that defines which images should be displayed for that answer.

Images are assigned according to the order in which they are added to the Attachment Source. For example, if the Attachment Source is named Country and contains three if statements, with three images added in each statement, the images will be displayed according to the answer indexes.

   In this example:

   • The corresponding Coca-Cola image is displayed for answer index 1.

   • The corresponding Sprite image is displayed for answer index 2.

   • The corresponding Fanta image is displayed for answer index 3.

   When finished, click “OK”.

Step 3: Assign the attachment source to the question

1. Go to the question’s Advanced tab
2. Choose the relevant attachment source.
