Uploading Data of Stopped Interviews

Background

There are a variety of scenarios where interim CAPI or CAWI interview data needs to be made available to data processing teams before an interview has been completed.

For example, in a CAPI project, an interviewer may stop an interview and return at a later date to continue it.

This is common in studies that require multiple visits, such as diary surveys or product placement/recall studies, where collecting all required information may take several sessions.

While the interview remains incomplete and stored on the device, the data team may still need access to the partial responses that have already been collected.

To support these use cases, SurveyToGo provides the option to upload stopped interviews during synchronization.

• This allows interim interview data to be transmitted to the server and made available for review and processing, even before the interview has been fully completed.

Enabling Stopped Interviews

To enable stopped interviews, a script needs to be built accordingly.

1. Under the survey Properties enable the option called ‘Allow upload of stopped interviews’

2. In the advanced scripts, SurveyToGo uses a callback that should return true for the option to work

   • Example: To start data uploading after an initial screening/setup is complete, use OnUploadOfStoppedInterview.
   • Once the above call back function returns TRUE:
     • CAPI interviews that are stopped and saved will have partial data uploaded.
     • CAWI Interviews will become accessible.

Important: Uploading a stopped interview assigns it a Subject ID and makes its data available for review and export. As a result, one interview credit will be deducted from your balance, even if the interview is later cancelled and never completed.
